About the role
The Engineering Manager will lead a team responsible for building, operating, and scaling the cloud infrastructure and platform systems that underpin CLEAR’s services, ensuring reliability, performance, and security across our environments.
Responsibilities
- Hire, develop, and grow engineering talent through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career development planning
- Set clear goals and expectations, provide regular feedback, and foster accountability across the team
- Own and execute the roadmap for cloud infrastructure and platform engineering, and reliability initiatives
- Design, build, and operate a scalable, secure, and highly available cloud platform infrastructure
- Drive automation across infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and operations to improve efficiency and reduce manual overhead
- Establish and enforce best practices for system reliability, observability, incident response, and disaster recovery
- Partner with engineering teams to improve deployment pipelines, service operability, and production readiness
- Provide technical leadership, making clear architectural decisions and communicating trade-offs, risks, and impacts
- Own operational excellence through metrics, SLAs/SLOs, and continuous improvement of system performance, reliability, and cost
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience managing and developing software engineers, with strong coaching and team leadership skills
- Strong experience with CI/CD systems, infrastructure automation, and release engineering
- Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and distributed systems architecture
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi)
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration at scale
- Experience designing for high availability, fault tolerance, and operational resilience
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, and or Java) and solid software engineering fundamentals
- Experience with observability tooling (monitoring, logging, tracing) and incident management practices
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence teams to adopt infrastructure and operational best practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Curious, proactive, and committed to continuous learning and improvement
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable, and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions
- Experience with cloud-native technologies and microservices architecture
- Knowledge of DevOps principles and practices
- Experience with cloud security and compliance standards
- Experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools
- Experience with cloud networking and load balancing

Pay
$275,000 - $350,000 annually, depending on levels of skills and experience.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
