Engineering Manager, Full-Stack & AI Platform
About the role
The Engineering Manager leads the team delivering Sequencing.com's AI health experience across various surfaces including the React Native mobile app, the web app, and the backend AI platform. This is a comprehensive, cross-surface leadership role where the same team manages both customer-facing frontends and shared backend services.
Responsibilities
Owns cross-surface delivery, including roadmap sequencing, delivery predictability, and capacity planning across the native app, web app, and AI platform.
Drives multi-surface releases, ensuring quality, product execution, and customer experience across React Native (iOS/Android), web, and backend.
Keeps backend contracts and APIs clean and stable to enable rapid development and minimize rework among mobile, web, and platform teams.
Led and develops a distributed team through coaching, regular 1:1s, hiring, and performance management, with clear day-to-day accountability.
Partners with Product and Bioinformatics to transform genomic complexity into understandable and actionable experiences for customers, maintaining accuracy and measurable AI performance.
Executes production-grade implementation of the multi-agent architecture, including planner agents, retrieval systems, model orchestration, and latency optimization.
Improves performance, stability, and deployment reliability across all surfaces to ensure customers can trust their health insights at any time.
Builds evaluation and regression checks into release workflows to maintain the stability of health insights as the system evolves, setting and enforcing clear targets for performance, reliability, and latency.
Maintains clean separation between the AI platform and core systems to keep the platform understandable and maintainable.
Reduces key-person dependencies to ensure the platform scales sustainably.
Leads AI-related incident response, postmortems, and long-term fixes to ensure sensitive health data and insights remain dependable.
Translates deep technical detail into simple operational plans for non-technical partners and communicates clearly with leadership on quality, reliability, and trade-offs.
Requirements
5+ years of engineering management experience, particularly with high-complexity, high-visibility systems. Full-stack leadership experience, managing teams across frontend and backend, and leading multiple customer-facing surfaces (mobile and web) built on shared backend services. Native mobile experience, preferably React Native across iOS and Android, as part of the managed surfaces, not the sole focus. Strong consumer product instincts in a complex domain, such as turning complex, information-dense content into clear, usable experiences. Comfortable holding your own in technical discussions, understanding trade-offs, and translating them into credible estimates, release plans, and business outcomes. Proven execution discipline, including improving predictability and delivery discipline, and enforcing clean architectural boundaries between systems and teams. Familiarity with AI/ML production environments, especially with multi-agent systems, planner agents, retrieval architecture, and model orchestration. Strong command of Jira, Confluence, and other project management and documentation tools. Distributed/remote team leadership experience, including clear communication and operational plan translation for non-technical partners. Based in the East Coast, with working hours aligned to U.S. Eastern Time (ET).

Command of AI and LLM tools for planning, communication, and process design. Clear communicator who can turn deep technical detail into simple operational plans for non-technical partners.
