Nordic Semiconductor is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Cloud Platform team. The platform supports hardware teams in monitoring, debugging, and updating IoT devices in production. Companies like reMarkable, Whoop, and Ultrahuman rely on it to ensure millions of devices are reliable in the field.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the nRF Cloud platform. Scale a system that handles data from millions of IoT devices daily, leading a team of experts.

  • Drive reliability, scalability, and performance while optimizing costs and other constraints.

  • Own team productivity and output. Identify and balance workload, shape workflows, and provide clear expectations and feedback.

  • Build and maintain a healthy team culture. Foster collaboration and ensure a supportive environment.

  • Contribute technically. Participate in architecture design, code reviews, and debugging production issues.

  • Define and evolve the cloud platform roadmap. Bias towards action and experimentation, continuously improving based on feedback.

  • Champion observability and technical excellence. Build a strong observability culture and ensure meaningful metrics, logs, and alerts are in place.

  • Partner cross-functionally. Collaborate with Product, SDK & Field Engineering, Go To Market, and Security teams to align engineering work with customer needs and business goals.

  • Hire well. When the team is performing, hiring becomes the highest-leverage thing. Own the hiring process for your team.

  • Represent your team across the organization. Communicate clearly and build relationships with other engineering leads.

Qualification and skills

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1 year of engineering management experience.

  • Proven ability to remain hands-on technically while managing a team. Comfortable reviewing code, contributing to architecture decisions, and debugging production systems.

  • Deep familiarity with AWS, including services such as EKS, RDS, S3, EC2, ECS, and related tooling.

  • Strong experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and operational concerns.

  • Proficiency in backend programming, with a strong preference for Python, Kotlin, and/or TypeScript.

  • Practical experience with Kubernetes, including deploying, operating, and scaling production workloads.

  • Strong experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Sentry, or similar, and a track record of improving system reliability.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective in explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and translating business context into actionable items.

  • Curiosity about the domain. Interest in understanding how IoT devices work, what firmware engineers need, and how cloud tooling and AI can make hardware product teams more effective.
