Engineering Manager

About the Role

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the preventative maintenance program of the hotel, including repairs and upkeep of the hotel and building operations. This role serves as the primary point of contact for hotel operations and duty engineers in daily operations, managing the engineering team, assets, and inventory. The manager directs and coordinates routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to achieve optimum efficiency and standards within budget.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate extensive knowledge in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Be conversant in hotel fire procedures, security procedures, and health and safety policies.
• Install, maintain, perform preventative maintenance on, and recommend replacement of tools, appliances, and equipment.
• Ensure spare parts are monitored and stocks are maintained at required levels.
• Apply comprehensive knowledge of mechanical repairs, refrigeration systems, and relevant software programs.
• Work with leadership to track and bill repair requests.
• Manage parts inventory for appliances serviced by the engineering department.
• Assist in training and motivating colleagues.
• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships, supporting team goals and addressing colleague concerns.
• Ensure adherence to quality expectations and identify opportunities for increased efficiency, productivity, safety, or cost-savings.
• Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines.
• Perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
• Conduct morning meetings and allocate tasks to engineers.
• Prioritize and respond to guest requests, ensuring follow-up and updates.
• Monitor service standards to meet high guest expectations.
• Address and resolve guest complaints in the absence of the Director.
• Focus on preventing issues and anticipating guest needs to resolve potential problems proactively.
• Direct, implement, and maintain a service and management philosophy to guide colleagues.
• Maximize financial performance by delivering exceptional guest service and product quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Diploma degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience and 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a hotel engineering department.
• Advanced knowledge of facility management and engineering with a positive attitude.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Commitment to delivering a high level of customer service.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Prolonged periods of standing.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
