About the role
The Engineering Manager will lead the Applied AI team at Copia Automation. The team's mission is to integrate cutting-edge AI into the workflows of industrial automation engineers, enhancing Copia's products such as the Copia Copilot and AI features within Source Control and DeviceLink.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead the team, focusing on hiring, onboarding, and continuous growth through regular 1:1s and performance feedback.
- Set the charter and direction, partnering with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to define the team's ownership boundaries and shape Copia's applied-AI strategy.
- Ship AI features that matter to customers, integrating GenAI into Copia's existing Source Control and DeviceLink products and improving the Copia Copilot experience.
- Drive the technical direction, overseeing the architecture of AI-powered, full-stack systems and ensuring reliability and scalability.
- Champion how we build with AI, helping the team adopt AI coding tools and sharing best practices across the engineering organization.
- Own operational quality and how we work, managing on-call practices, incident response runbooks, and engineering standards to enable faster, more confident development in a safety-critical domain.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years of formal or informal people-leadership experience.
- Hands-on experience building AI-enabled products, with a strong technical foundation across the stack and fluency with AI coding tools.
- Demonstrated ability to coach engineers and share best practices in AI tooling and engineering practices.
- Sound judgment around prioritization, scope, and trade-offs, including experience with GenAI feature development at scale.
- Empathy, humility, and high standards, with a willingness to learn about industrial automation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with TypeScript / Node.js, React, Go, C#, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, Datadog, and Git internals.
- Experience with developer tools, CI/CD, or DevOps platforms.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, developer tools, industrial automation, OT/IT, manufacturing software, or IoT.
