Engineering Intern (Extra Help)

Duties

• Collecting GPS data in the field for water system infrastructure.
• Using software equipment such as desktop and tablet.
• Reading maps and navigating through the City while walking or driving.
• Following standard safety guidelines.
• Interacting with the public in a professional manner.
• Aiding in the preparation of plans and maps as needed.
• Assisting with the collection, filing, updating, and retrieval of maps, drawings, and survey reports for use by professional engineers.
• Verifying data pertinent to civil engineering using ArcGIS and GPS data collection.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment; symbols and terminology used in public works, engineering, and drafting; functions, characteristics, and the proper use and care of engineering, drafting equipment; geometry, trigonometry, and engineering math.
• Skills in: Basic engineering drafting utilizing contemporary tools and techniques; engineering math; geometry.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other persons.

Minimum Requirements

• Experience: None.
• Education: None.
• Knowledge of engineering, drafting, geometry, and/or trigonometry preferred.

Special Requirements

• Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
