Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform daily inspections of public and private construction for the City to ensure accurate and timely installation. This is accomplished by ensuring all specifications and requirements have been met; reviewing plans and specifications; and coordinating activities between the contractor, other City departments, and other agencies.
Essential Job Functions
- Inspects workmanship, materials, and construction of private development and public works infrastructure including excavation, paving, roadways, bridges, drainage, water, sewer, and utility work to ensure compliance with all plans and specifications, and no damage to adjacent properties has occurred.
- Affirms that specifications for street and utilities material testing requirements are met; obtains water samples for quality in accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements; monitors traffic control devices, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Trench Safety Systems; enforces regulations of Confined Space Entry and Rescue.
- Performs plan review and record keeping by reviewing plans and specifications with the Supervisor; attending pre-bid and pre-construction meetings; obtaining quantities and estimates for City funded projects; reviews lab reports, water and core samples for accuracy and to ensures conformation with existing codes, standards and specifications and in accordance with TCEQ and the EPA requirements; and maintains daily reports of work performed on the job and other events related to the projects.
- Captivates activities between the project engineers
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
- Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
- Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
- Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
