Engineering Equipment Operator

About the role

This Engineering Equipment Operator position is located in the Facility Management department at the VA Boston Healthcare System. One position will be located at the Brockton Campus and one at the West Roxbury Campus. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Operates gasoline- and diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled traction, including wheel skid loader with attachments, front end loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and trench diggers, mowing, and trimmers.
• Loads dump trucks with materials such as salt, sand, loam and mulch.
• Prepares soil for plants, seeds, trim, prune, fertilize plants and shrubs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Requires obtaining a Massachusetts Hoist Operators License within 30 days of hire to operate commercial sized dump truck with hydraulic attachments.

Responsible for regular interpretation of work requests, assignments and priorities; exercises good judgment and a high degree of initiative.

• Must demonstrate evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
