Duties

  • Operate a variety of vehicles such as 5, 8 and 20-ton dump truck and a 1-ton truck for transporting personnel, articles, and materials on and off post on public roads and highways.
  • Determine the correct operation of the equipment and the required attachments, frequently handling the varied controls at the same time to perform the work.
  • Operate equipment in on all types of terrain and confined areas, requiring operational control relevant to the complexity of the equipment.
  • Operate a dump truck with front mounted snowplow and rear mounted sand and salt spreader and other special purpose vehicles such as trailer mounted air compressor, vacuum leaf picker, tractor mower and fuel truck.
  • Operate a 2.5-cubic yard diesel driven bucket loader to load sand, dirt, or gravel for transporting by dump truck.
  • Operate a 12,000 - pound street sweeper, tractor mounted front end street sweeper, and a 5-ton, 1000-gallon street flusher in the maintenance of on-post streets.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a valid Government Driver's License.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Experience: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks. I can drive dump trucks, loaders or tractors to haul sand, stone and/or other aggregates; I can level grounds using equipment such as graders or rollers, and I can operate a variety of snow removal equipment (e.g., snow blowers, graders with wing attachments or loaders) to remove snow. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility for this position, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs. Considerable strain caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Occasionally may be required to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes.
