Engineering Director

About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Director based in the United States. This is a senior engineering leadership role focused on enabling fast, high-quality execution across multiple engineering teams within a high-growth, early-stage environment.

Responsibilities

• Support senior technical leadership by prioritizing, organizing, and streamlining engineering workflows to reduce operational overhead and improve execution focus.
• Oversee engineering pods, ensuring alignment, accountability, and effective collaboration across distributed teams.
• Triage and coordinate technical issues, ensuring they are properly categorized, escalated, and resolved in a timely manner.
• Contribute to solution architecture design and technical decision-making, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and alignment with business objectives.
• Represent engineering priorities in product and leadership discussions, ensuring technical debt and backlog considerations are clearly addressed.
• Improve engineering processes, workflows, and operational structures to increase delivery speed and team effectiveness.
• Provide leadership support across multiple teams, ensuring consistent execution standards and communication flow.

Requirements

• Strong experience in engineering leadership roles within startup or high-growth environments, with a focus on execution and delivery.
• Deep understanding of logistics, transportation systems, or related operational technology domains.
• Proven experience working with transportation management systems (TMS) or similar complex enterprise platforms.
• Strong background in software architecture and system design, with the ability to guide scalable technical decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multiple engineering teams or pods in parallel.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, with comfort operating in fast-paced, high-change environments.
• Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices.
