Engineering Director

Corporate Real Estate Solutions (CRES) delivers services across Barclays’ global real estate portfolio, managing sites from small regional retail properties to large, iconic global campuses. With approximately 200 employees worldwide, CRES acts as a strategic partner to the business, scaling to its needs and providing services such as property acquisition, construction, day-to-day building operations, and strategic footprint solutions for employees globally.

About the role

As the US Building Operations Director Lead, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for building engineering infrastructure across Barclays’ US portfolio. You will lead the delivery of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering services, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with business priorities. The role also supports data center (DC) strategy and construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage and make decisions for the maintenance, delivery, and operation of building services engineering, technical services, and energy management across the Bank’s Americas property portfolio and infrastructure assets. This includes planned and reactive maintenance, utility-related assets (electricity, gas, water), and consistent application of policies, procedures, and guidelines to manage risks effectively.
• Provide strategic direction, governance, and technical advisory expertise to internal and external stakeholders to drive optimization, efficiency, safety, compliance, resilience, reliability, and risk mitigation for building engineering infrastructure.
• Serve as the regional lead for managing and coordinating building engineering infrastructure suppliers, including performance management in line with service agreements and KPIs.
• Oversee end-to-end management, development, and execution of building engineering infrastructure projects and proposals aligned with the Bank’s specifications, sustainability initiatives, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, safety, quality, and cost competitiveness.
• Act as the operational client lead for building engineering infrastructure services and energy management at data centers and critical sites, collaborating with the DC Engineering Lead.
• Partner with the Global Engineering & Innovation Lead, sharing market and sector trends to inform decisions and enhance colleague and customer experience.

Requirements

• Operations background in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing).
• Building engineering operations experience within the financial sector or equivalent corporate environment, with a focus on “Always on” critical environments.
• Qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
• Experience delivering building engineering services in mixed portfolios of critical and complex environments (e.g., trading floors, data centers, campuses, call centers) during occupancy.
• Demonstrable experience in risk and incident management within critical and complex environments.

Pay

Base salary range: $240,000 – $280,000 (excludes additional compensation or benefits).
