Engineering Designers – Chassis Wiring Harness and Braking Systems
About the role
This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role is eligible for relocation benefits.
Responsibilities
- Design responsibilities: Create detailed routed Wheel Speed Sensor, Motor on Caliper Park Brake and Electro-mechanical Brake Caliper Jumper Harness Designs including but not limited to: Wire, Sensors, Accelerometers, Connectors, protective sleeves, attachment clips, mounting brackets and fasteners
- Create detailed routed Jounce Hose/Pipe assembly Designs
- Generate dynamic Harness & Jounce Hose representations using NX/Flexpipe
- Create and maintain a library in NX for standard hydraulic fittings, clips, fasteners, and electrical connectors
- Complete thorough clearance analysis and optimize Harness and Hose Designs to meet all Design Best Practices, clearance and other functional requirements including GMW15105 for Hoses
- Support additional Brake System Design work: Throttle and Brake Pedal, Brake Apply (Boosters and Secondary Brake Modules), Front & Rear Brake Corners (Bearings, Rotors, Rotor Shields, Calipers, Jounce Hoses) and performance vehicle Brake Cooling components (Cooling Ducts, Deflectors, etc)
- Develop fully parameterized Computer Aided Design math models adhering GM Computer Aided Design, data management, design best practice, Vehicle Assembly Structure, Global Data Security and Global Design infoBOOK standards
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles
- Facilitate and participate in formal and informal Design Reviews and Virtual Reviews as required
- Document and maintain material, mass, and other part specifications within the math data and/or drawing files
- Support Computer Aided Engineering or Virtual Design, Development and Validation team with studies to fully optimize designs
- Create Design studies and propose alternatives. Adjust Designs to changes in program definition
- Create math data (models) or virtual layouts of complex components and subsystems
- Ensure high quality, on time math release of components and subsystems
- Support DREs in Statement of Requirement (SOR) creation by providing detailed math model, dynamic simulation, and packaging background
- Support General Motors Car, Truck, Crossover, Performance vehicle, ICE, EV & Hybrid platforms
- Aid in the development of system, subsystem, and component requirements
- Understand the General Motors Vehicle Development Process, program timing, and the associated math synchronization requirements
- Monitor and evaluate emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices affecting assigned components or systems
- Proactively communicate with Design Manager and DLT and DRE regarding project status, timing, and technical issues
- Actively seek opportunities for continuous learning
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in CAD / engineering design (automotive or mechanical systems)
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and parametric modeling
- Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturability, and subsystem integration
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Wheel Speed Sensor, Motor on Caliper Park Brake and Electro-mechanical Brake Caliper Jumper Harness Designs including but not limited to: Wire, Sensors, Accelerometers, Connectors, protective sleeves, attachment clips, mounting brackets and fasteners
- Master’s degree in Engineering
