Engineering Designer - Substation

Welty Energy is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight on transmission, substation, and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Prepare substation and electrical design packages in accordance with client standards, based on direction and engineering inputs.
- Designs may include, but are not limited to: Single-line diagrams, AC and DC schematic diagrams, Physical layout designs, SCADA system designs, Wiring diagrams.
- Develop complete construction drawing packages, including precise installation details and supporting documentation.
- Ensure all project deliverables comply with applicable client standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Utilize client-approved software systems and drawing management platforms to manage, track, and update documents checked out by Welty.
- Provide consultation, technical support, and design insight for internal Welty projects at the request of the Leadership Team.
- Collaborate closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and other team members to support efficient project execution and timely delivery of design packages.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in drafting or equivalent technical program.
- 3-6 years of experience designing utility substations or transmission projects utilizing AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Relevant experience on brownfield substation design, focused on 12kV to 230kV preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective organizational skills.
Qualifications
About 5% travel will be required for this position. States To Be Considered For Remote Candidates: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia.
Skills
AutoCAD and/or MicroStation proficiency.
