About the role
This application is for the Civil Service Examination (CS2026-113) for the position of Engineering & Construction Inspector. Submitting an application registers you for the examination and the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for future openings.
Responsibilities
- Under supervision, inspects the construction of roads, bridges, or sewers.
- Examines paving construction and maintenance work.
- Ensures compliance with contract plans, specifications, and good workmanship.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two years of full-time paid field experience in inspection and construction of civil engineering projects required. A Construction Technician certification may substitute for experience.
- Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
Port Control Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Four years of full-time paid experience in construction inspection or related construction of civil engineering projects required. A Construction Technician certification may substitute for two years of experience.
- Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.
- Must pass Airport Operations Area (AOA) driving and communications tests within three months of hire.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must comply with a TSA 10-year fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check.
- Ability to perform basic calculations to verify quantities of materials and check dimensions and elevations.
- Knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, FAA standards and/or ODOT standards.
- Exposure to inhospitable environmental and inclement weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in sewer, concrete, and/or asphalt paving and commercial/industrial building.
- Computer knowledge, especially of MS Word.
