About The Role
We are seeking an Engineering Capability Leader to build and lead an enterprise API capability from the ground up. This individual will define API strategy, governance, standards, platform architecture, and adoption practices across the organization. This is a transformational leadership role responsible for establishing API capabilities, driving enterprise adoption, and creating a scalable framework that supports long-term business growth.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the enterprise API strategy
- Establish API governance, standards, and operating models
- Lead development of API platforms, developer portals, and API catalogs
- Build scalable and secure integration frameworks
- Drive API adoption across engineering teams and business units
- Evaluate existing integration platforms and future-state architecture
- Develop security standards for authentication, authorization, encryption, and threat protection
- Partner with engineering, architecture, security, and business leaders to align priorities
- Lead modernization initiatives related to integrations and APIs
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, integration, or API platforms
- Demonstrated experience building enterprise API programs
- Deep knowledge of API governance and platform strategy
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, integration patterns, and microservices architectures
- Experience implementing API security standards
- Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide technology initiatives
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- MuleSoft expertise
- Experience building API developer portals and API catalogs
- Kafka or event-driven architecture experience
- Banking, financial services, or other regulated industry experience
- DevSecOps experience
- Open banking or partner integration experience
Location
San Antonio, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, or Houston (Hybrid)
Pay
San Antonio: $211,000 - $245,000 base + 15% target bonus
Other Texas Markets: $231,000 - $268,000 base + 15% target bonus
