Engineering/Architecture Principal Professional

Support the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) Program, Controlled Maintenance (CM) Planning Program, Deferred Maintenance (DM) Planning Program, and provide project and construction support for campus facilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) program, ensuring consistency, database maintenance, and effective use of processes and procedures.
• Participate in data collection and provide expertise to guide the department in utilizing the FCA database effectively.
• Provide reporting to demonstrate database usefulness and review database integrity annually.
• Oversee the Facilities Audit program, utilizing department staff and resources.
• Communicate program priorities to department staff and ensure alignment with State requirements for the Controlled Maintenance (CM) program.
• Coordinate and organize department staff and resources to meet CM program objectives, including preparing the annual CM submittal.
• Provide communication and recommendations for CM and Deferred Maintenance (DM) project execution, including prioritization and scope details.
• Align DM funding with project needs and maintain a database of departmental needs and proposed funding amounts.
• Support the project development process to ensure proposed projects are adequately reviewed and do not adversely impact existing building systems.
• Serve as Operations Project Representative (OPR) for assigned projects, representing the department’s long-term building owner interests.
• Actively participate in the project review process and assist in developing guidelines and construction standards for consulting architects and engineers.
• Support Central Utility Plant (CUP) operations, including engineering analysis for the utility plant digital control system and BAS support.
• Provide engineering support for CUP operations, including equipment staging, capacity utilization, and project oversight.
• Support the multi-campus Building Automation System (BAS) program, including engineering analysis, status reporting, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, vendors, and Facilities Projects to coordinate construction and renovation impacts on the BAS program.
• Participate in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (AssetWorks) for the BAS program, including preventative and corrective maintenance processes.
• Support Building Maintenance & Operations (BMO) zone operations, including preventative maintenance, work order processes, and emergency response.
• Coordinate with the outage program for various campuses and provide emergency response support for multi-campus facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, facilities management, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
• 3-5 years of professional industry experience in the Building Automation System (BAS) field.
• Substitution: An advanced/post-graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis if relevant to the industry and work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in facilities engineering related to BAS and digital controls design, installation, and operation.
• Experience with HVAC/R (heating, ventilating, air-conditioning/refrigeration) design, construction, and operation.
• Experience with a BAS networked in a distributed manner in a multi-building campus setting, preferably an academic health and research campus.
• Certification as a Certified Energy Manager or ability to attain this certification within the first six months of employment.

Skills

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel spreadsheets.
• Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
• Familiarity with chillers, mechanical systems, boilers, steam systems, and electrical systems.
• Ability to administer, plan, organize, and direct energy tracking program responsibilities.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of facilities management, building systems, utilities, and maintenance operations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels.
• Outstanding customer service skills.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $88,056 - $117,995. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.

Work Location

This position is based onsite at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.
