Engineer - Wireline
Overall Purpose
The purpose of this role is to possess outside plant design knowledge and be capable of designing outside plant work orders, providing administrative and field support to the outside plant provisioning process, and be familiar with various communications outside plant engineering concepts such as copper cable, fiber optic cable, and coax cable.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Must be able to utilize facility analysis process to select areas for rehabilitation, coordinate field work, prepare work order drawings and documentation, update work order records in an accurate and timely manner, analyze reports, provide work order estimated expenditures or placement and joint use memos.
- Must have a knowledge of telephone industry standards, access, read, and interpret mechanized assignment records, PC applications, OSP records, or computer-aided drafting systems.
- Must be able to interact with all on-line computer systems that AT&T requires.
- Qualified to review underground structure design and apply a structural or civil professional engineering (P.E.) stamp when requested. Licensed within the state where work is being performed.
- Securing the necessary field information, record verification, document preparation, data input, prepare work order construction prints, records posting. Must be able to make recommendations to AT&T employees on all findings and needed changes.
- Must be in compliance with the latest revisions of the National Electric Safety Code, the National Electric Code, AT&T practices and procedures, local and governmental jurisdiction and be in accordance with instructions supplied by AT&T.
Description Background
Reporting to the team that manages pole inventories and inspections nationwide. The team's primary job function is to work in conjunction with the power company or alone through proactive efforts to manage third-party vendors performing pole inventory and/or inspection activities. Deliverables come back from these vendors with the required data attributes where data review needs to occur to confirm quality levels have been met. Data reviews occur in ArcGIS Pro utilizing different layers of data to ensure the vendor made correct decisions with linking, attachment, and pole ownership, pole discrepancies, adds/deletes, etc. Along with ArcGIS, systems utilized for review: Googlemaps, Waldo, ARAMIS, and pictures provided by vendor. Post review, this data is approved and will be stored internally in a new pole record database as well as updating our internal engineering databases. Main Job Functions:
- Support the deliverable data reviews coming back from the vendors: inventory and/or drop removals
- Support Inventory team in assisting with WC assignments to vendors and other admin tasks to help setup inventories prior to dispatch
- Support inspection projects by performing analysis on pole candidate locations to generate the most efficient dispatch list for vendors

Technical Skill Set Requirement
- Microsoft Suite Experience (Excel/Word/Teams/PowerBI etc. experience.)
- Ability to use different tools within excel to provide reporting data.
- Understanding Formulas and other tools
- X Lookup, Pivot Tables, Hyperlink, Concatenate and etc.
- OSP experience
- Knowledge of OSP Poles
- Being able to differentiate between Electric, Cable TV and Telecom Hardware Copper cable, fiber cable, service drops, peds, J-hooks etc.
- Birthmarks
- Basic understanding of pole ownership and rental
- Working understanding of WALDO (preferred)
- AT&T OSP symbology
- GIS experience, preferably with ESRI products such as ARCGIS PRO.
