About the role

The role involves creating and actioning individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate US domestic network transport builds across both ULH and OTN Mesh networks. The transport engineer works closely with the transport planning team to deploy new network technology and adopt new inventory and provisioning systems.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and engineer network projects based on customer capacity requirements.
  • Perform planning, forecasting, and capacity monitoring of LD/ULH Transport network infrastructure and equipment.
  • Support LD transport capacity requirements to support Verizon's full suite of products and customers.
  • Develop Bill of Material and place orders for network equipment, rack, and hardware requirements.
  • Manage, input, and update central Network Inventory Database (i.e. ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE, CCP).
  • Provide detailed diversity analysis for internal and external groups.
  • Coordinate with GTNOC and provide ad-hoc restoration for priority systems in the event of fiber cable outages.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

The applicant must have an extensive logical (not physical) knowledge of SONET and Long-Distance transport systems, a good understanding of the transport network, and strong organizational and time-management skills. An understanding of dependencies such as space, power, fiber, and diversity is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree and 5-10 years progressive technical experience designing SONET and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transport systems and drawing complex system diagrams using Visio.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience collecting and consolidating information from multiple tools, systems or platforms into a single database or data repository.

  • Familiarity with - ICON, CCP, BGW, NAUTILUS, CANVAS, TCOMS or nSAP is a plus.
