About the role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking experienced engineers to join our program management team. Ideal candidates will have a safety-first mindset, dedication to client success, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams in executing substations, transmission lines, and telecommunications projects from inception to completion.

  • Manage up to 20 projects concurrently, overseeing projects ranging from $100k to $50M in size and at various voltages (4kV-765kV).

  • Navigate client gate approval processes, including presentations to senior and executive management.

  • Ensure financial adherence by maintaining accurate cost forecasts and managing project budgets.

  • Coordinate with client-approved vendors for construction, testing, and other field activities.

  • Provide regular status updates through project data and routine reporting, including meeting updates for clients.

  • Facilitate project execution through project meetings involving cost, schedule, real estate, environmental, construction, and engineering resources.

  • Develop multi-year capital expenditure plans to support client's asset replacement and improvement efforts.

  • Interface with project sponsors to evaluate need-by dates and create realistic schedules and budgets.

  • Assist with federal and state filings by reviewing and reconciling project change requests and creating analyses and reports for project tracking.

  • Create baseline scopes, schedules, and budgets for project stakeholders.

  • Develop and manage construction lifecycles for substation and transmission projects, focusing on outage efficiency and constructability.

  • Analyze project documents to determine construction boundaries and create initial outage sequences.

  • Coordinate with drafting resources to create detailed engineering drawings documenting project progress.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in engineering design, project management, or a relevant role.

  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong planning and analytical skills.

  • Ideal candidates should hold an I.T. or P.E. license.

  • Superb oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to present complex information effectively.

  • Travel 10-20% of the time, depending on project assignments and client needs.
