About the Role
Support engineering projects in Variable Cam Timing (VCT) / Timing Drive (TD) applications, product development, VA/VE, and new business opportunities. Collaborate with design departments, suppliers, prototype teams, and validation groups to create innovative, cost-effective mechanical solutions that meet internal and customer requirements for performance and durability.
Responsibilities
- Create or review product performance specifications or targets.
- Lead designs to meet customer specifications and packaging constraints.
- Conduct proof-of-concept evaluations and technical assessments of design refinements.
- Recommend application-specific design changes to meet customer technical requirements.
- Lead or support DFMEA and DVP&R reviews with customers or validation engineering groups.
- Analyze prototype parts for functional performance, failure modes, and diagnostics on customer vehicles/engines.
- Lead or support technical meetings with customers and internal teams.
- Release designs for various program phases in conformance with product design guidelines and Product Development Launch Processes (PDLP).
- Identify new concepts to address weaknesses in the current product portfolio or technology roadmap; collaborate with VCT and Chain Drive Homerooms.
- Collaborate with Plant Product Engineering to improve quality, manufacturing efficiency, or design cost reductions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
- 0-2 years’ experience in VCT / TD or close-tolerance mechanical/hydraulic devices.
- Detailed understanding of design processes.
- Proficiency in GD&T, tolerance stacks, and general mechanical drawing standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (8D, FTA, DOE).
- Experience in design, development, and release of new products.
- Familiarity with statistical methods for data analysis.
- Experience and knowledge of TS-16949 quality systems.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office products.
- Understanding and working knowledge of various simulation/FEA tools.
- Strong verbal and technical writing communication skills.
