Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks candidates for roles within the Electric Transmission System Operations Center Operations Engineering team. Positions range from Engineer to Staff Engineer. The team supports system operators and engineers in the SOC, focusing on Operator Tools or Network Applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Model Dominion’s Transmission system, including SCADA modeling, network topology, contingencies, equipment ratings, and parameter impedances.
  • Coordinate with and assist various engineering, operations, and field teams, as well as PJM, to maintain the EMS model.
  • Support quality assurance testing of major EMS IT projects.
  • Conduct research, development, and demonstrations of leading-edge tools, technologies, and applications to maintain industry leadership.
  • Participate in trade and industry organizations, benchmarking activities, universities, ISOs/RTOs, and national research labs.
  • Debug, test, and validate EMS applications.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Years of Relevant Engineering Experience:
    • Engineer: 2+
    • Sr Engineer: 5+
    • Staff Engineer: 8+
  • Power Systems:
    • Strong electrical engineering background, preferably in electric power systems.
    • Understanding of AC/DC circuit analysis fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
    • Experience with Energy Management Systems such as GE/Alstom’s e-terra platform.
    • Knowledge of State Estimation, Power Flow, and Contingency Analysis.
  • Technology:
    • Proficiency with standard Office applications.
    • Training users on new EMS applications and seeking feedback for continuous improvement.
    • Assisting with quality assurance testing of major EMS IT projects.
    • Research, development, and demonstration of leading-edge tools, technologies, and applications to maintain industry leadership.
  • Personal and Interpersonal:
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills (including technical writing).
    • Ability to work independently or in teams, process information quickly, and manage multiple tasks.
    • High attention to detail and drive for standardization.

Education Requirements

  • Required: Degree in Engineering (see below Engineering criteria)
  • Preferred Advanced Degrees:
    • Doctorate in electrical engineering
    • Master’s in electrical engineering
  • Disciplines: Electrical Engineering with a sufficient work or research history in the power systems industry.
  • Engineering Criteria:
    • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited program based on the year the program was accredited by ABET.
    • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside the U.S. accredited under the Washington Accord and recognized by the country's accrediting body.
    • Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution.
    • Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution.
    • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

What You'll Get

  • Base Salary Range:
    • Engineer: $81,900 - $106,400
    • Sr Engineer: $90,900 - $118,100
    • Staff Engineer: $102,300 - $132,800
