About the role

BAE Systems Space & Mission System (SMS) in Westminster and Boulder, Colorado pioneers electrical systems for challenging space, air, and ground applications. We are looking for Electrical Engineers with technical expertise in EMI/EMC to help design and build next-generation electronics.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Responsibilities

  • Define the electronics EMI compliance architecture for spacecraft subsystem and assembly level hardware, including:
    • Technology assessments
    • Instrument and/or spacecraft requirements flow-down to electronic subsystems
    • Electronic requirements analysis and allocation
    • Electrical subsystem conceptual development/trade studies
    • Supporting hardware development efforts for current and future program needs
    • Providing system test support during environmental EMC testing
  • Support instrument remote sensing and/or spacecraft bus programs, especially in the areas of EMI/EMC requirements, design, issues, and testing (unit level and system level).
  • Document test results and exceedances and write post-test compliance reports.
  • Participate and/or lead activities in all phases of a program life cycle from concept development to delivery.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Work Environment

  • On-site work requiring regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location.
  • Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors, or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required, plus 4 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree (Master’s Degree or Ph.D.) may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Knowledge of the physics of EMI/EMC and system interactions at the physical layer.
  • Understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, circuit design, interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
  • A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable of space environmental factors (radiation, Total Ionizing Dose, etc.) and how they interact with EMC/EMI concerns.
  • Analytical skills including FMECA, WCA, reliability, and risk mitigation.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461/462/1541 and SMC-S-016 testing requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in FPGA-based electronics architecture and the impact of EMI on such architectures.
  • Good communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to lead group discussions.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $97,008 - $164,914. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
