About the Role
Maximize plant production and optimization of KPIs while guaranteeing all product is manufactured within environmental and quality specifications. The Process Engineer will focus on process engineering, including analysis, study, process troubleshooting, and optimization.
Responsibilities
- Work following the Mission, Vision, and Values of CEMEX, lead by example.
- Initiate, develop, and implement plant improvement projects.
- Eliminate equipment restrictions and implement projects/upgrades to improve KPI performance.
- Commission equipment and provide expertise and technical knowledge to plant personnel.
- Identify training requirements and execute training programs to reach standard levels.
- Identify gaps in performance versus standards for equipment and personnel, creating action plans.
- Create instructions, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with Root Cause Analysis and Troubleshooting.
- Ensure performance and efficiency of equipment at or above rated operational capacities, minimizing operational cost.
- Perform mass and heat balances, hydraulic calculations in industrial fans/ductwork, and gas handling.
- Perform equipment diagnostics and validate plant instrumentation through routine testing.
- Optimize PID, Specific Heat Consumption, and Specific Power Consumption.
- Optimize Alternative Fuel & Fuel performance up to strategy.
- Follow up and improve performance of grinding media and refractory performance.
- Optimize environmental reagents while complying with environmental limits.
- Take decisions and accountability to reach objectives.
- Daily performance follow-up, data logging, and action follow-up of process flow charts and equipment information.
- Act as PI/Seeq Champions/Power Users.
Safety Responsibilities
- Adhere to all CEMEX, MSHA, O.S.H.A., and other safety rules and regulations at all times.
- Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds (including clothing, hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, etc.).
- Ensure all plant personnel (direct and indirect reports) work in a safe environment, guaranteeing all required tools are available for safe task performance.
- Conduct and follow up on risk assessments and safety hazard identifications.
- Ensure personnel have the skills and training needed to perform safely and productively.
- Assure the assigned area meets safety standards, identifying and correcting deviations.
- Participate in safety committees, risk assessments, training, and standard work.
- Assist in developing safety programs and monitor plant operations to ensure safe job performance.
- Participate in near-miss and accident investigations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering (Chemical preferred), or related major.
- 5 years of progressive experience within the heavy industrial manufacturing industry.
- Previous cement process experience is a plus.
- Experience in continuous process, bulk-material handling operations may also be considered beneficial.
- Basic understanding of raw geologic materials (e.g., limestone, clay, sand, iron ore), their chemical composition, and familiarity with crushing, grinding, blending, kiln processing, cooling, and conveyance (e.g., belts, stackers, pneumatics).
- 2-5 years of progressive experience in cement (if Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering).
- Availability to work and resolve issues in the assigned area at all times.

Working Conditions
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform job functions including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, and climbing to a significant degree.
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate safely around heavy rolling equipment.
- Must pass DOT physical, including back x-ray, hearing test, and drug/alcohol screen.
- Capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
