Engineer - Optical Focal Plane Electronics System

About the Role

Seeking a Focal Plane Electronics System Engineer to design, characterize, and optimize advanced electro-optical (EO) focal plane subsystems across various detector technologies, supporting critical missions for Civil, Defense, and Tactical clients.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop high-performance, low-noise electronics for space-based imaging.
• Provide expertise in focal plane interface electronics and components.
• Contribute to design, development, testing, and troubleshooting of focal plane subsystems, focusing on electrical interfaces and grounding strategies.
• Develop test plans and procedures to validate device performance and resolve operational issues.
• Support system modeling, analysis, risk assessments, and requirements development using engineering tools and methodologies.
• Maintain effective working relationships within teams and departments.

Requirements

• BS (or higher) in Engineering or related field with 6+ years of experience; higher degrees may substitute experience.
• Experience with electrically interfacing to focal planes with complex read-out circuits and photodetectors.
• Knowledge of harnessing, grounding, EMI, and lab testing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; good interpersonal, organizational, and initiative-taking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with semiconductor detectors, programming in C, Matlab, Python, and FPGA operations.

Work Environment

• On-site presence required; potential travel between locations.
• Work in office, lab, cleanroom, or outdoor environments, with occasional use of protective gear.
