About the role
The HMSA Technical Services - Network Team implements and supports HMSA's IT network infrastructure. This position conducts maintenance for and supports moderately complex to complex network infrastructure, and works on one or more projects/issues concurrently, as a team member and sometimes as a project lead.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical institute degree/certificate or equivalent work experience.
- Three years of relevant information technology work experience.
- Substitutions such as a higher-level degree, specialized training or certification and less work experience will be considered.
- Demonstrates expertise in multiple technologies, such as:
- Cisco/Aruba networking equipment
- Load balancers
- Next-generation firewalls
- Network access control
- IPSec VPN
- Data center infrastructure
- Cloud computing
- Packet capture analysis
- Scripting
- Network monitoring tools
- Wireless analysis
- Uninterruptable Power Supply systems
- Structured cabling management
- Network documentation and diagrams
- Effective communication skills, to include the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for operating and providing support to HMSA's network infrastructure, including:
- Ensuring the reliability of HMSA's networks, to include the planning and implementation of enhancements.
- Implementing, maintaining, and upgrading HMSA's network infrastructure.
- Making configuration-related decisions, updating configuration management tools, and documenting procedures and configurations.
- Implementing, maintaining, and operating network monitoring tools.
- Utilizing monitoring tools to analyze capacity and growth.
- Performing and analyzing packet captures across various locations.
- Maintaining system security by following audit and compliance procedures.
- Installing system patches to support vulnerability management.
- Maintaining the physical security of network infrastructure.
- Implementing contingency plans, including backup and restoration procedures.
- Providing technical expertise across business functions, understanding the relationship between the business and the Information Systems Department.
- Consulting with other Information Systems Department teams regarding infrastructure requirements and providing recommendations for both the design and implementation of systems integration efforts.
- Supporting project planning and requirements gathering efforts.
- Recommending and creating action plans for systems development and/or integration.
- Planning and implementing upgrades and ensuring that change management procedures are implemented and followed.
- Planning and scheduling infrastructure repairs and installations.
- Coordinating and planning activities with vendors.
- Ensuring that asset and disposal procedures are adhered to.
- Designing and implementing infrastructure replacement plans.
- Maintaining inventories as appropriate.
- Monitoring Key Performance Indicators and maintaining service levels to ensure that requirements are met or exceeded.
- Escalating problems as required and informing management as appropriate.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, working with multiple vendors to coordinate the resolution of issues.
- Reviewing logs and maintaining Information Technology Service Management tools to document changes and identify recurring problems.
- Identifying the training needs of users and sharing knowledge with users and other Information Systems Department staff.
- Updating users on the status of incidents and problems, ensuring that follow-up procedures are adhered to.
- Tracking customer satisfaction.
- Participating in long-term infrastructure strategy and planning.
- Participating in rotating on-call support schedules and providing after-hours support to business operations as needed.
- Supporting remote locations across the Hawaiian Islands, including overnight travel as needed.
- Required to be on-call for critical incidents as they arise.
- Participating in continuing education and training as needed or assigned to ensure an accurate and updated knowledge base.
- Performing all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
