Engineer Manger, Cloud Services

About the Role

You will lead an engineering team end-to-end, owning its architecture design, delivery, and roadmap. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be accountable for the team’s outcomes, working closely with Product to shape and deliver the roadmap. You’ll ensure predictable, reliable delivery of quality software, focusing on engineering excellence and AI-assisted development. Your team will own the long-term health and evolution of Cloud Services products, including data protection, security, and edge services (SSL, email, EADN, CDN/WAF).

Responsibilities

• Own architecture design, delivery, and roadmap for your team.
• Build a strong partnership with Product to shape and commit to the roadmap.
• Ensure the team is accountable for the long-term health and evolution of Cloud Services products.
• Stay hands-on: write specs, review pull requests, and ship real changes.
• Run and drive AI-assisted engineering practices daily, ensuring team adoption.
• Scope and cut work monthly, ensuring unknowns are identified and status is reported honestly.
• Clear cross-team engineering dependencies proactively.
• Hold the engineering bar to achieve DORA High metrics and beyond.
• Grow your engineers through one-to-ones, growth plans, and direct feedback.
• Own hiring end-to-end and maintain a high bar for new hires.
• Manage on-call rotations, incident resolution, and toil reduction.

Requirements

• 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 1 year leading engineers formally or informally.
• Hands-on technical fluency in: Perl, PHP, React, Vue, relational databases (Postgres, MariaDB), CDN, WAF, and server security.
• Recent experience shipping code and reviewing AI-generated code.
• Proven experience with AI-assisted engineering, with quantifiable impact.
• Evidence of making a team measurably faster, with knowledge of DORA metrics or equivalents.
• Experience delivering and modernizing software to committed dates, including collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting.
• Experience operating a production on-call rotation and owning hiring end-to-end.
• Must have experience in managed hosting, cloud, or another high-availability service business.

Work Environment

The role requires regular speaking, hearing, and keyboarding. Work is performed at a desk and computer screen for extended periods, in a climate-controlled office or from home. The environment is highly stressful, with diverse challenges and deadlines.
