Engineer - Lab
About the role
This is a Level II Engineer role supporting the testing and evaluation of AMI 2.0 meters and ancillary metering devices within a laboratory environment. The position involves performing assigned hardware tests on meters, reviewing documentation including policies and procedures, developing meter test plans, and conducting various tests such as meter cycle, humidity, chamber, voltage, and similar testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute test plans for AMI 2.0 meters and ancillary metering devices.
- Perform laboratory evaluations in coordination with a Laboratory Technician who will conduct specific tests.
- Ensure compliance with CPUC regulations, ANSI standards (specifically the C12 suite), and national electric codes.
- Apply laboratory testing methods and safe practices for complex evaluations and installations.
- Support installation and testing of single-phase and polyphase meters.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to address technical issues and maintain quality standards throughout deployment.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of CPUC regulatory requirements and ANSI C12 standards.
- Familiarity with national electric codes and laboratory safety protocols.
- Experience in creating and managing test plans for metering systems.
- Understanding of AMI systems and interoperability principles.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with laboratory testing of metering devices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- ANSI 12 experience.
- Safety and testing standards such as UL1004.
- AMI experience (preferred but not required).
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (highly preferred).
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science may also be acceptable if the candidate has relevant experience.
Required Experience
- 2–5 years of experience.
- Lab background is highly preferred.
- Experience in Electrical Engineering; other hardware experience is acceptable if not specifically in metering.
- Prior testing experience, preferably hardware testing.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- 4–5 years of experience (highly preferred).
