About the role
The City of Gainesville Public Works Department seeks a talented professional to join their team as an Engineer IV, focusing on Development Review. This role involves advanced, independent professional and technical engineering work supporting the City's vision for 2035.
Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates major engineering projects.
- Performs work requiring engineering practice, including complex features like conflicting design requirements, materials suitability, optimization of resources, and intricate coordination.
- Develops and implements project budgets.
- Provides guidance, assistance, and interpretation to others.
- Manages multiple projects or major projects with unique or controversial issues affecting major programs.
- Writes effective letters and complex reports.
- Develops and makes technical presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited educational institution or a similarly accredited non-US institution, with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited educational institution or a similarly accredited non-US institution, with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Continuing education to maintain currency in assigned engineering discipline, regulatory, and other related knowledge.
- Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License.
- Valid State of Florida “Engineering Intern” license or Professional Engineer license, depending on assigned area of work.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited educational institution.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized software, broad knowledge in the specialty area, thorough knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties, ability to develop, implement, and interpret policies and rules, apply complex and most current industry engineering practices and techniques, decision-making, independence, and direction received.
- Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Write effective letters, reports, and responses to regulatory agencies, speak effectively in one-on-one situations and to diverse groups, prepare and deliver technical presentations, explain engineering studies and evaluations, present complex technical material in an understandable manner.
- Complexity and Magnitude of Assignments: Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate major engineering projects, perform work requiring a broad knowledge in the specialty area and thorough knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties, possibly assume responsibility for development and implementation of project budgets.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in MicroSoft Office Suite or equivalent, proficiency in specialized software as required by the individual department.
