Engineer Intern

Position Summary ND Defense is seeking Engineering Interns in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering to support manufacturing operations and engineering projects. This internship provides hands-on experience in a defense manufacturing environment, including electrical assembly, harness and cable fabrication, work instruction development, process documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with production and quality teams. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Assist with electrical assembly operations, including wire harness fabrication, cable routing, connector termination, and component installationSupport the programming, setup, and documentation of automated and semi-automated assembly equipment under the direction of senior engineersDraft and revise manufacturing work instructions, job travelers, and standard operating procedures for assembly processesCreate and update wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layout drawings, and interconnect documentsSupport the development and documentation of manufacturing processes, tooling, and test fixturesConduct time studies, measurements, and data collection to support process improvement initiativesRead and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, wiring diagrams, and technical specificationsAssist with electrical testing, continuity checks, and quality verification of completed assembliesSupport engineering change notice (ECN) processing and drawing revision controlParticipate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities as neededCollaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams on active projectsPerform other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related fieldCompleted at least two years of coursework in the applicable engineering disciplineBasic understanding of electrical assembly processes, wiring methods, and soldering techniquesAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentsProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn in a hands-on environmentMust be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR120.62) Preferred Exposure to CAD or electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent)Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards for cable and wire harness assembliesCoursework or project experience with PLCs, control systems, or circuit designExperience with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, hipot testers)Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment Physical Requirements And Work Environment Ability to stand, walk, and move around a manufacturing floor for extended periodsMay be required to lift up to 25 lbs occasionallyFine motor dexterity required for electrical assembly and soldering tasksExposure to shop floor conditions including noise, temperature variation, and industrial equipmentPersonal protective equipment (PPE) required in designated production areas ND Defense LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
