About the Role
This position is within the Engineering and Construction section of Houston Public Works, located at 1002 Washington Ave. The role is part of the Emergency Management team at the Tier III Level.
Responsibilities
- Conduct stormwater plan review and permit to ensure compliance with the Code of Ordinances and the City of Houston Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM).
- Work with customers and citizens on various plans and documents submitted for review or address their questions.
- Conduct meetings requested by customers and citizens.
- Understand storm and drainage design requirements, including the Code of Ordinances, City of Houston Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM), and other relevant codes, particularly recent changes related to detention and new rainfall data (Atlas 14).
- Review various capital projects as assigned.
- Conduct stormwater quality (SWQ) plan review and permit to ensure compliance with the Code of Ordinances, City of Houston Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM), and TCEQ Rules and Regulations.
- Investigate and respond to inquiries from other City of Houston departments, technical personnel, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and the public.
- Assist with other technical work related to drainage and stormwater infrastructure.
- Perform other assigned duties and tasks.
Working Conditions
The position is physically comfortable, with discretion over walking, standing, etc. This role is subject to random drug testing.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved engineering curriculum recognized by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued under the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
- No prior experience is required.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants who possess the qualifications necessary for the role and are among the most qualified candidates.
Pay
Pay Grade: 22. Factors used in determining the salary include the candidate's qualifications and the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
