Engineer-in-Training (Department of Public Works and Department of Water)

About the Role

This is a professional entry-level position where the Engineer-in-Training prepares designs for minor projects or assists other engineers with major projects related to streets, alleys, transportation systems (including curbs, sidewalks, and traffic flow), storm and sanitary sewers, water distribution and storage facilities, safety, and other civil systems.

Responsibilities

• Assists engineers in developing cost estimates for City, State, and Federally funded projects.
• Conducts and participates in studies analyzing specific engineering problem areas.
• Prepares preliminary drawings, analyzes problems, and formulates plans and recommendations to eliminate issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and maintain it as a condition of continued employment.

Additional Conditions

• Background investigation and proof of Employment Authorization and Identity required prior to employment.
• Must pass a job-related medical examination, including drug and nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine-free as a condition of continued employment.
