Brief Description
Engineer III-V at Spheros Environmental provides advanced technical expertise in fish telemetry and aquatic monitoring technologies. Key responsibilities include leading complex studies, field programs, and technical analyses, overseeing study design, equipment deployment, data quality, and reporting, and supporting proposal development and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates advanced understanding of engineering and working understanding of scientific principles.
- Applies systems thinking drawing on a broad set of topics.
- Demonstrates technical expertise, is recognized as a fish telemetry subject matter expert internally, and actively develops an external reputation.
- Regularly presents technical work at conferences and contributes to peer-reviewed publications.
- Strong understanding of fish telemetry and other acoustic equipment such as ADCPs or ADVs.
- Maintains and provides guidance on the maintenance and care of field equipment, data, and samples.
- Reviews and performs quality control where appropriate.
- Leads technical analysis of other scientists.
- Designs and implements standard processes and procedures for the preparation, testing, installation, calibration, operation, and maintenance of field equipment and instruments.
- Oversees preparation, testing, installation, calibration, operation, and maintenance of field equipment and instruments.
- Responsible for data reporting and visualization/mapping, writing plans/reports, producing graphics, and regulatory reporting.
- Reviews work products and procedures for quality assurance and control.
- Takes personal responsibility for the quality of all work performed.
- Takes a lead role in establishing internal teaming arrangements.
- Proficient in communicating technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
- Communicates articulately with coworkers and clients, commonly the primary author/architect for deliverables.
- Recognizes a red flag and works with colleagues to resolve.
- Actively seeks the latest technologies related to science and engineering principles and practices.
- May make recommendations to improve.
- May manage and supervise subcontractors.
- May lead project kick-off meetings.
- May serve as PM or Technical PM.
- Ensures project deliverables for the team are completed at the expected quality, within budget, and on schedule.
- Prepares status updates on projects via reports and communicates to leadership, internal, and/or external clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree preferred) and/or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience.
- Holds Professional Engineer or has ability to and does obtain within 1 year employment.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work environment is expected to be ~25% outdoors at all times of year under all weather conditions and ~75% in the office.
- This role requires moderate travel to outdoor work sites and may involve exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions.
- The work can be physically demanding and require prolonged standing or walking.
- Able to lift 40 to 50 lbs.
- Incumbent must work effectively in remote, physically demanding field conditions and over uneven terrain.
- Work confidently and comfortably around water, work from boats, and work at hydroelectric facilities.
