About the role
Client Diagnostics Systems in Sparks, MD is a division of Client’s Life Sciences Organization. R&D Engineering is responsible for the design and development of world-class in-vitro diagnostics instruments, lab automation systems, and informatics solutions. The Test Engineering team supports R&D’s product development and maintenance by performing verification and validation to test and qualify products and solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with other project teams to understand and derive specifications.
- Transform product, system, and software-level requirements/specifications into test protocols and test cases for functional, non-functional, and risk-based tests.
- Execute planned test cases to discover functional and non-functional system and software anomalies with risk impacts.
- Provide detailed descriptions of discovered anomalies to obtain resolutions from software, system, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams.
- Support software, systems, and engineering teams with troubleshooting, characterization, and validation activities for prototypes, breadboards, and sub-systems.
- Support the service/training organization in troubleshooting customer complaints.
- Provide testing support for sustaining activities.
- Engage in continuous improvement to enhance test automation, test architecture, and test leadership skills.
Requirements
- Four-year undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering or science.
- 2–5 years of software/system testing experience, preferably in an embedded/hardware environment with automated tests.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work in a cross-functional team and complete testing tasks per project and quality needs and timelines.
- Proven and creative test skills with attention to detail; ability to think out-of-the-box to discover product anomalies and improve test efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software and system development cycles, including understanding specifications and requirements to create test protocols and test cases for optimal test coverage and execution speed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to describe test scenarios, deviations, non-compliances, and risks technically and professionally.
- Familiarity with defect tracking tools, requirement management, and test management tools such as TFS, HP ALM (Quality Center), or Cognition Cockpit.
Desired Skills
- 1–2 years of experience automating user interfaces in Microsoft Windows or embedded Windows environments using tools such as Tricentis Tosca, QTP, CodedUI, AutoIT, Selenium, or AngularJS.
- Ability to create simple SQL scripts and perform API validations in C#, C++, or JavaScript environments.
- Familiarity with FDA regulations for medical instruments, ISO 14971, and IEC 62304 standards.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Design for Six Sigma.
