About the role
The Quality Engineer works collaboratively with production, engineering, finished goods, customer service, service centers and suppliers to ensure that processes are followed, and process outcomes meet or exceed expectations. The Quality Engineer is a leader in advanced quality planning, supplier quality feedback/improvements in quality processes and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Support New Product Development and Change Management with both internal engineering and with suppliers to support print requirements
- Develop and improve Advanced Quality Planning activities within product development and sourcing for process hand-off to Manufacturing, including measurement devices
- Develop and maintain QMS documentation
- Perform/Approve First Article Inspections
- Ensure manufacturing follows predetermined quality standards
- Conduct internal quality system and product audits according to ISO 9001, IAPMO standards and Zurn Elkay organizational quality management system
- Report supplier non conformances through the Global Supplier Quality reporting system and Business Unit systems
- Coordinate nonconforming material containment process within the business unit
- Manage and support the CAR/CAPA process, working across departments internally and with suppliers and corporate supplier quality to resolve customer quality concerns
- Support Applications Engineering and Operations in clarifying production print in conjunction with documenting organizational knowledge
- Maintain quality records
- Support continuous improvement activities (#CI) across the company as required
- Attend trade shows as needed to benchmark measurement system improvements
- Project Manager for 8D root cause analysis teams for our largest impact projects
- Implement improved daily visual management for 8D projects and critical to quality continuous improvement action plans
- Integrate visual management plan with daily gemba process in manufacturing cells
- Engage engineers & floor associates to interact in daily improvement actions
- Participate in tear downs, trouble shooting, testing and validation of internal failures or new design improvements
- Design / Implement / Audit improved standard work processes for manufacturing cells that drive warranty reductions
Requirements
- Four-year BS or BA degree engineering or engineering technology program
- Required: Technical quality background, with five + years' experience in working with several quality improvement tools. Ie. 8D Problem Solving, 5 Why Root Cause, Statistical Principles, Measurement Systems, FMEA, APQP, Control Plans, SPC, etc.
- Preferred: Advanced problem solving experience preferred, i.e. – Shainin, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
- Project management experience
- Proficient with common Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with Statistical software such as MiniTab
- Experience with Six Sigma and / Lean Enterprise required
- Knowledge of blueprint reading
- Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Experience with Six Sigma and / Lean Enterprise required
- Can work with Hand Gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Machining/foundry/sheet metal background a plus
- FARO or CMM knowledge a plus
