Engineer II, Facilities

As a Facilities Engineer II, you will support the general operation of Badger Meter’s global sites in a safety-first culture, focusing on buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment. This role involves evaluating facility and equipment issues, maintaining drawings, establishing policies, and contributing to the design and optimization of facilities and equipment. You will play a key role in continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives, splitting time between the office and the manufacturing floor while collaborating across multiple functional groups and organizational levels.

Responsibilities

• Support facilities operations by troubleshooting infrastructure (HVAC, air, water, building construction, etc.), systems (CMMS, BAS, etc.), and equipment in manufacturing and office operations.
• Recommend changes to infrastructure, systems, and equipment.
• Provide engineering support, training, technical expertise, and problem-solving to all site departments on facilities-related items.
• Manage and execute facilities-related projects, including design, scope writing, budget generation, contractor comparison, and project execution for renovations and upgrades (projects may range up to several million dollars).
• Assist in developing, managing, and executing capital expenditure budgets.
• Lead, manage, and participate in capital expenditure infrastructure projects to support facility and greenhouse gas (GHG) goals from inception to completion, including end-user collaboration, design, government permitting, and contractor management.
• Develop comprehensive and sustainable preventative maintenance plans for new and existing infrastructure and equipment.
• Leverage asset management systems and other tools to maintain infrastructure and equipment.
• Research, evaluate, and implement facilities technologies to position Badger Meter as a technological leader, considering objectives in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environment, and Employee.
• Collaborate with disciplines such as manufacturing engineering on facilities and plant-related items, including cell layouts and continuous improvement projects.
• Develop and maintain sustainable processes and procedures for plant layout and infrastructure drawing management.
• Ensure facilities meet health, safety, regulatory, and legal requirements, working with internal resources and external organizations (e.g., government agencies, property insurance carriers, contractors, architects).
• Manage contracted services (e.g., landscaping).
• Travel up to 10% (1-2 trips per year).

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
• Intermediate proficiency with MS Office Suite.
• Basic familiarity with codes and regulations (NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
• Ability to apply project management skills to ensure projects meet cost and timing objectives.
• Basic understanding of facility design and construction.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a manufacturing/office environment; ability to operate standard office equipment required.
• Must be able to stand or walk for prolonged periods.
• Work is performed indoors and outdoors; may be exposed to heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
• Must be able to wear personal protective gear for most of the day.
• Must be able to ascend and descend ladders.
• Depending on the assigned department, may require completion of an audiogram test.
