Engineer II

About the role

Assist Senior/Chief Highway project engineers in the design and development of road and highway contract plans, specifications, and estimates. Develop feasible design alternatives and compare parameters such as typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, right-of-way requirements, and construction cost. Perform standard computations, analysis, and research assignments. Support preparation of final design plans, cost estimates, and technical special provisions.

Attend design meetings and coordinate with team members. Prepare letters, faxes, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, project schedules, and other administrative-related documents. Maintain an adequate record of design documents. Willing to work on fast-paced Design-Build projects. Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of road and highway contract plans, specifications, and estimates
• Develop and compare feasible design alternatives (typical sections, alignments, right-of-way, cost)
• Perform standard computations, analysis, and research assignments
• Support preparation of final design plans, cost estimates, and technical special provisions
• Attend design meetings and coordinate with team members
• Prepare administrative documents (letters, spreadsheets, presentations, schedules)
• Maintain records of design documents
• Work on fast-paced Design-Build projects

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline plus 5 years of related experience
• Experience with DOT and AASHTO Standards, and MUTCD
• Experience with MicroStation, AutoTurn, GeoPak, Open Roads Designer, Open Bridge, AASHTOWare, Civil 3D, HY-8, ArcGIS, VISSIM, Synchro, and HCS
• Experience with Microsoft Office
• Local and regional travel required up to 10% for site visits
