Engineer I - Traffic

About the Role

RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Engineer to join our highly successful traffic group in our Baltimore, Maryland office. You will work alongside and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of traffic engineers and transportation professionals in the industry, playing a crucial role in improving transportation systems throughout the region.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering tasks including transportation safety evaluations, traffic operations analyses, and traffic control device design.
• Provide traffic engineering support for projects ranging from small-scale studies and designs for isolated intersections to complex solutions for urban arterial networks and major highway systems.
• Use microsimulation tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, and VISSIM to plan, visualize, and analyze traffic-related projects.
• Prepare design plans for a wide range of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS).
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and design plans.
• Communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Strong writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam OR have the ability to take and pass the FE exam within 12 months of employment.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a Traffic or Transportation focus.

Qualifications

• Prior internship experience in Traffic or Transportation Engineering (preferred).
• Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred).
• Exposure to traffic-related software (HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM) (preferred).
• Exposure to MicroStation and/or AutoCAD (preferred).
• Experience with MS Word/Excel/Access (preferred).

Pay

Hourly Rate: $36-41/hr.
