About the role

Join our rapidly growing operations team at BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) in Westminster, Colorado. This Industrial Engineer I role supports the Manufacturing & Test Operations team within our Aerospace Manufacturing Center, focusing on value stream analysis, simulation modeling, project management, and facilities planning. The role is dynamic and challenging, requiring a results-driven individual with a passion for continuous improvement and experience applying Lean Manufacturing tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various analyses of the value stream to ensure proper layouts, material flows, and available capacity for successful program execution.
  • Use simulation software to identify current value stream constraints and assess the effects of business growth on factory capacity.
  • Support the value stream team by improving work cell layouts, information flow, hardware flow, and performing data analysis.
  • Forecast and plan development & manufacturing growth, including floorspace, equipment capacity, tooling, and technician requirements to meet quantities and schedules.
  • Perform a broad range of analyses, including queueing, DOE’s, production planning and control, SMED, time study, value stream mapping, process flow diagrams, FMEA, and quality function deployment.
  • Engage and report to senior operational and engineering leaders, team members, and stakeholders to gain alignment on implementation plans and success metrics.
  • Maintain a continuous presence where the work is performed, conducting daily Gemba walks to gather facts and develop a deep understanding of processes.
  • Influence others using a Lean coaching approach, emphasizing respect for people, "go and see" behavior, problem prioritization, and collaboration.
  • Drive accountability within the organization, addressing problems with urgency.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments, business units, and the company to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Work Environment

  • On-site position requiring regular in-person engagement, working five days per week at the primary Westminster, CO location.
  • Travel and local commute between company campuses and other non-company locations may be required.
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where protective equipment and gear are required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited university, college, or school.
  • Each higher-level degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) may substitute for two years of related experience.
  • Proven Industrial Engineering skillset demonstrating aptitude for simulation modeling, queueing analysis, value stream analysis, and project management.
  • Creative problem-solving approach with an appetite for experimentation and persistence in the face of setbacks.
  • Experience aligning and influencing employees without direct functional responsibilities.
  • Strong presentation skills to communicate with senior leadership.
  • Mentality focused on dynamic gains over static optimizations and horizontal value flow across organizations.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, recognizing individual strengths and areas for improvement, and managing misalignment.
  • DoD Interim Secret clearance required to start; must be maintained to continue work. Applicants must be willing and eligible for clearance submission after an offer is accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects and/or teams.
  • Experience with R, Python, Matlab, SQL, and other programming languages.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $64,926 - $110,374. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
