Engineer I - GES Structures and Stability
About the role
ABS Government Engineering Services (GES) is searching for an Engineer I to assist with ship structure, stability and load line reviews. This person will perform engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the ideal candidate will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures. Individual will support U.S. government agencies (US Navy, US Military Sealift Command (MSC), US Coast Guard, MARAD, NOAA, etc.) by performing various classification and certification services for surface vessel. Individual will need to be U.S. Citizen. Must have or be able to attain a security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of ship structural plans and stability analyses as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations and contract commitments.
- Prepared first principal calculations or using computer aided engineering tools to predict the structural integrity of the vessel.
- Perform classical stress calculations, finite element stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
- Use of finite element modeling techniques, primarily FEMAP for finite element model development and NASTRAN finite element solution.
- Prepare technical reports and work with other engineers to find resolutions to problems.
