Engineer I - Electrical

CoVolt Power is a leading utility-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) company specializing in the design and delivery of solar, battery energy storage (BESS), and high-voltage infrastructure. Since its founding in 2005, the company has built a reputation for de-risking project delivery and providing creative, integrated solutions that span the power and digital infrastructure sectors. This position is based at our corporate office in Albany, NY.

The Engineer 1 - Electrical will collaborate with a team of engineers and drafters to support substation engineering design projects, including detailed electrical and physical design for substation projects, and provide engineering design and construction support for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop single-line switching and protection diagrams.
• Develop three-line and DC schematic diagrams.
• Develop and maintain a bill of material.
• Develop cable and conduit schedules, including sizing.
• Conduct required calculations and create reports for AC and DC systems, including sizing DC batteries, overvoltage protection and coordination, conduit fill, grounding, lightning protection, etc.
• Develop control panel layouts and wiring diagrams; select protective devices and ratings.
• Review and coordinate substation physical drawings and calculations, including general arrangements, clearances, details, conduit, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, including cable ampacity and installation details.
• Ensure all engineering documents and records are properly maintained.
• Coordinate and guide designers/drafters, and perform detailed review/approval of electrical drawings.
• Participate in the development of less experienced engineers and designers.
• Provide engineering specifications and other information required by purchasing to procure equipment.
• Select and order substation materials and/or equipment.
• Review vendor submittals.

Requirements

• Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering (required).
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering (preferred).
• Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Practical knowledge and understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction types of projects.
• Highly motivated with the ability to execute tasks with adequate supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
• Skilled in engineering theories and principles.
• Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing/presenting them.
• Skilled in problem-solving in time-sensitive situations.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification (preferable but not required).

• Microsoft Word – basic proficiency.
• Microsoft Excel – basic proficiency.
• Microsoft Outlook – basic proficiency.
• AutoCAD (2015 or later) – advanced proficiency.

Travel Requirements

Typical travel for this role is 10%.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move equipment up to 15 lbs.
