About the Role

An Engineer I prepares and reviews engineering plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates. This role may involve overseeing the work of drafting, sub-professional engineering, and other personnel. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical supervisor and work a conventional workweek in an office setting under normal working conditions with minimal physical exertion.

Pay

Salary Range: $75,588 - $125,740 annually
Hiring Salary Range: $75,588 – $102,164 annually

Requirements

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Education: Have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
    • Equivalency Note: A Master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for the Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering.
  • Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Some positions may require one or more of the following:
    • Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland
    • Engineering Technologist certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET)
    • Current licensure as a Professional Engineer issued by the Maryland State Board of Professional Engineers or equivalent out-of-state license
    • Valid Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver's license or equivalent, and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions of trust will be required to authorize release of criminal conviction information and may be subject to a background check and/or fingerprinting.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and practices
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and conduct engineering investigations
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, consultants, and developers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret City engineering standards, policies, technical requirements, and codes

Additional Information

  • All persons selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probationary period.
  • Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months.
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution; foreign credentials must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency (www.naces.org).
  • Candidates indicating minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list based on their application. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity.
