About the role

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Manufacturing Operations Test Engineering Team in Baltimore/Linthicum, MD seeks an RF Test and Development Engineer or Principal RF Test and Development Engineer to join our 1st shift team. This role is ideal for engineers who want to assume ownership of the performance and delivery of Northrop Grumman's diverse suite of RF and digital product hardware. Our engineers work in a high-exposure, fast-paced, and exciting environment involving hands-on technical challenges, problem-solving, and inter-department collaborations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement testing methods and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and support RF and digital hardware
  • Support First Time Through Test Yield (FTTTY) and hardware deliveries
  • Analyze test data and identify early trends
  • Compile data and define changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements
  • Collaborate with design engineering to develop and implement hardware improvements and solutions
  • Support technicians through troubleshooting and training
  • Monitor product yields and maintain program yield targets
  • Support program meetings in developing root cause and corrective actions
  • Attend program meetings to report yield issues, yield detractor investigation findings, and corrective actions
  • Interface with manufacturing management, test technicians, production engineers, design engineers, system engineers, program management, and program support teams

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of RF theory and concepts
  • Working knowledge of digital circuit design
  • Analytical skills to review requirements, test plans, and test scenarios
  • Ability to effectively communicate across teams
  • Self-directed, organized, team-oriented, and experience with MS Office tools

Qualifications

RF/Digital Test and Development Engineer 2

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 0 years of experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting specifications, schematics, and block diagrams
  • Experience with RF hardware and software
  • Experience with digital engineering
  • Experience with RF test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
  • Experience with troubleshooting on the lower and component level
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Secret level clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (after training period on 1st shift)

Principal RF Test and Development Engineer 3

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 3+ years of experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting specifications, schematics, and block diagrams
  • Experience with RF hardware and software
  • Experience with digital engineering
  • Experience with RF test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
  • Experience with troubleshooting on the lower and component level
  • Current, active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (after training period on 1st shift)

Skills

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline (preferred)
  • Experience with FPGA (preferred)
  • Experience with LabWindows CVI, C/C++ programming, Python (preferred)
  • TestStand programming (preferred)
  • Experience with digital, analog, RF test equipment, RF theory, and high-speed digital (preferred)
  • Experience with differential digital interfaces like LVDS (preferred)
  • PXI/PXIe and VME bus experience (preferred)
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical hardware (preferred)

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

This is a 1st shift position with the ability to work 2nd shift after a training period on 1st shift.
