Engineer (EIT) - Structural

About the role

Located in Fargo, ND, our culture emphasizes career growth. As a Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI), you will split time between field work on outdoor construction phase activities and in‑office projects assisting engineers. You will contribute to a range of structural engineering projects — from complex grade separations and large river‑spanning bridges with architectural enhancements to box culverts for rural townships — as well as hydraulic structures such as dams, floodwalls, gate wells, and regional lift stations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan specifications, estimates, and documenting construction activities.
• Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines with various project set drawings.
• Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Perform work in software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
• Conduct observation and data collection at various project sites.
• Assist with research, development, and design of projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• 0‑3 years of experience in Civil Engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D and ArcGIS is helpful.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
• Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.
• Superior problem‑solving and analytical skills.
