About the role
The Calibration Engineer 1 supports the proper functioning and development of the Engineering Lab by ensuring testing instrumentation is calibrated on schedule, instruments and gauges provide accurate readings, and calibration records are maintained accurately.
Responsibilities
- Comply with calibration procedures for existing and new lab equipment.
- Maintain accurate calibration records and track all calibrated equipment, both internal and external.
- Complete calibrations and qualifications safely, timely, and accurately following established procedures and schedules.
- Ensure calibration records are completed accurately and report any calibration issues or deficiencies to the lead.
- Coordinate with third-party labs to expedite externally calibrated equipment and maintain records of their accreditations, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025.
- Calculate uncertainty values related to calibration.
- Handle, store, and maintain test instrumentation and calibration standards properly.
- Identify project supply and equipment needs to prevent interruptions in lab operations.
- Maintain a neat, professional, and safe work area, adhering to safety protocols.
- Work within engineering methodologies to generate accurate test data in the Engineering Lab.
- Collaborate as a team player to promote safety as the top priority.
- Perform additional projects or duties to support ongoing business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electronics or Computer Engineering preferred).
- 0-3 years’ experience, including co-ops, internships, or research projects involving pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of traceability, substitution of standards, test accuracy, and uncertainty ratios as part of ISO 17025 requirements.
- Familiarity with pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation, including basic calibration concepts and accuracy testing.
- Ability to operate scissor lifts to reach instrumentation at higher levels.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Understanding of thermocouples, pressure transducers, current transducers, and digital power meters.
- Familiarity with LabVIEW and control systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to apply good judgment, strong work ethic, and integrity on the job.
