About the role
The position of Engineer is responsible for but not limited to mechanical operation of Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, Electrical systems, Fire alarm systems, HVAC units, Air handler’s, as well as guestroom InnComm system. Directs maintenance personnel and conducts repairs as well as preventative maintenance in the plant.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on mechanical equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot problems, make repairs as follows: replace bearings and belts and check for proper alignment, repair fan coil units, replace piping and fittings and maintain appropriate records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Respond to requests and make the necessary repairs in a timely and courteous manner.
- Absorb requests to shut down water, steam and gas supplies.
- Change filters on HVAC and fan coil units.
- Ability to understand guests’ service needs & requests.
- Able to acknowledge guests’ requests in a polite manner.
- Able to work all shifts as needed, including holidays, weekends, and vacation/sick relief and during hurricanes.
- Mechanical skills.
- Able to work with computerized energy management systems.
- Good communication skills and ability to have good judgment.
- May be required to perform other duties as required by engineering management.

Qualifications and Skills
- A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.
- Must have a minimum 2 Class Air Conditioning & Boiler Stationary Engineer’s Certificates.
- Minimum 5 years in school and/or hands-on work experience in buildings with complex plumbing systems.
- Individual should have broad, practical experience in the fields of stationary engineering, building maintenance, electrical and plumbing.
- Candidate must be familiar hotel systems and equipment in order to make repair within the building preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Must have engineering experience and 2nd class Boilers and a 2nd class Air conditioning/Refrigeration license.
- Must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
