About the role

The Volpe Center supports the Department of Transportation modes, other agencies in the federal government, and non-federal projects related to research and innovation in transportation. The Volpe Center serves as a multidisciplinary center of expertise for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal agencies. The Volpe Center works to anticipate emerging transportation issues and provides technical, operational, and institutional solutions to complex global challenges. It focuses on key priorities such as safety, infrastructure, innovation, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Program
  • Support GIS data and Database management
  • Support SS4A grant application review and screening
  • Process and aggregate technical data and prepare reference materials for Government review
  • Generate summary metrics and synthesize data outputs for data calls
  • Support FHWA Office of Operations research and strategic planning initiatives
  • Support OST-R Research and Technical Programs
  • Analyses in support of digital infrastructure modernization
  • Develop analytical models using historical data
  • Consolidate Traffic Operations Center operational data and requirements in support of modernization efforts
  • Conduct feasibility assessments of technology-based approaches to address evolving transportation challenges

Requirements

This position requires United States residency for three of the last five years. Must be able to be cleared for a position of Public Trust through the Department of Transportation. Demonstrated technical competence and experience in transportation-related programs and analyses. Understanding of customer mission and strategic goals. Good communicator and adept at presenting technical analysis reports. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with stakeholders: sponsors, customers, as well as project technical staff. Experience with the full suite of MS Office tools.

Qualifications

Demonstrated technical proficiency and experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Database Management & Administration, Operations Support, and Technical Information Distribution. Specialized proficiency and hands-on experience in these areas is required.
