Responsibilities
- Aid in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
- Ensure the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal laws.
- Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified according to hotel standards or authority having jurisdiction.
- Supervise engineers and ensure they are properly trained in the customer service program, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention standards.
- Participate actively in energy conservation programs according to Highgate Hotel’s standards.
- Review all Guest and Meeting Planner comment cards to ensure problems are identified and corrected promptly.
- Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Assist with the administration of vendor contracts controlled by the Engineering Department in accordance with Highgate Hotel’s financial standards.
- Assist in developing and controlling wage/salary, other expenses, and energy budgets in line with Highgate Hotel’s financial standards.
- Absorb responsibilities during the absence of the Director and/or Assistant, assuming the administrative, financial, and operating aspects of the Engineering department.
- Assist in developing financial forecasts and actively participate in monthly profit/loss review meetings.
- Assist with special projects and renovations as needed.
- Repair and program hotel electronic lock systems.
- Schedule preventive maintenance tasks as necessary.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent and/or relevant experience in a hotel or a related field required.
- At least three years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
- Trade school and/or college coursework in related fields preferred.
- Previous supervisory skills required.
- Flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.
- Maintain physical stamina to perform heavy work, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests, maintaining a warm and friendly demeanor.
- Effectively listen to and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests, multitasking and prioritizing departmental functions to meet deadlines.
- Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to support safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Handle problems effectively, anticipate guest or operational needs, and show initiative.
- Understand and apply complex information from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
- Be cross-trained in other hotel-related areas.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
