About the Role

Responsible for performing entry-level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Expertise: Possesses entry-level knowledge and experience in applying engineering theory to solve well-defined problems or provide analysis, with guidance from higher-level engineers. Assists in handling well-defined portions of more complex problems. Exhibits fundamental understanding of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the area of assignment. Gains familiarity with pertinent equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
  • Leadership & Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks. Demonstrates working knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures, with activities monitored by higher-level employees. Performs assigned work as coached by higher-level engineers. Works collaboratively, supplying information and seeking assistance as needed.
  • Planning & Organization: Provides input to routine project planning documents, including scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts). Monitors project status and recommends actions. Prepares cost estimates using established standards. Develops understanding of workflow for routine engineering projects.
  • Problem Solving & Initiative: Actively seeks information and applies basic techniques to resolve routine technical problems. Uses initiative to identify opportunities and present new ideas or approaches.
  • Communication: Assists in preparing reports and technical papers. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, and presents ideas clearly. Listens to instructions and requests clarification as needed.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Networks with peers to share information and encourage cooperation. Develops effective give-and-take relationships and works collaboratively as a team player.
  • Decision Making: Makes routine decisions subject to review and contributes to team decision-making under the guidance of higher-level employees.
  • Business Awareness: Demonstrates a customer-focused attitude and applies economic analysis techniques in problem-solving. Pursues environmentally responsible and cost-effective solutions. Encouraged to participate in professional and business organizations.

Requirements

  • Engineer Associate:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
    • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination (in preparation for PE licensure) is encouraged and preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the requirement if the candidate obtains a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Engineer:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
    • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination (in preparation for PE licensure) is encouraged and preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the requirement if the candidate obtains a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Engineer Sr:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or 2 years of related engineering experience with a Master’s or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the requirement if the candidate obtains a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
    • Alternative: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s program.

Pay

  • SG 06: $74,551 – $93,189
  • SG 07: $87,633 – $109,544
  • SG 08: $98,993 – $128,689

Compensation Grade: SP20-006. Compensation Range: $74,551.00 – $128,688.00.

Schedule

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary Work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods.
