Engineer Apprentice

This position interacts with the Chief Engineer, Plant Supervisor, all Department Heads, employees, hotel guests/visitors, clients, contractors, and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Work with trade mechanics to assist in duties ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained hotel, including repairs and maintenance on guestrooms, caulking bathrooms, cleaning cooling towers, and replacing burned-out lights.
• Perform minor shop repairs and small electric repairs (switches and outlet replacements).
• Provide and plug in extension cords, clamp-on lights for exhibit set-ups, occasional painting, and wall covering repair.
• Complete daily calls logged from HOTSOS and work assignments from the Chief Engineer.
• Maintain lamp storage room.
• Maintain, repair, and clean mechanical areas/equipment, and perform preventive maintenance.
• Change filters on air handling equipment.
• Clean and paint various areas throughout the hotel as assigned.
• Clean culinary diffusers, return air registers, and toilet exhaust where not accessible from a 6-foot ladder.
• Set up and break down equipment needed to perform job functions.
• Assist with boiler operation as needed and stand boiler watch upon receiving proper training.
• Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with hotel policies, departmental policies, and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, Lock out-Tag out, city codes, and hotel standards.
• Check with supervisors or Chief Engineer for daily assignments.
• Follow protocol for entering a guest room and established trade practices in handling assignments.
• Always follow safe work practices and advise supervisors of progress or problems related to assignments, especially if work is not going according to schedule.
• Maintain par inventory of materials and supplies needed for tasks and/or projects, and advise supervisors before stock runs out.
• Attend Engineering Team Briefing towards the end of shift.
• Attend meetings and hotel training sessions as required by hotel management.
• Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements, including department-specific training regarding equipment and procedures.
• Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• Ability to clearly communicate with proper grammar in English with guests/visitors and hotel personnel.
• Ability to provide legible communication.
• Ability to perform simple mathematical functions.
• Some formal technical school training (desirable: some college education/technical training).
• Previous hotel experience.
• Boiler operation training.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $17.70 to $18.80 per hour. This is the lowest to highest pay scale believed to be applicable at the time of posting. The actual pay may vary based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business needs.
