About the Role
The overall function of this position is to serve as a project manager for District design projects and consultant contracts, providing technical expertise and assistance to District personnel in roadway design, pavement preservation, and plan development. This position is located in the District 61/Unit 001 Main Headquarters Building in Baton Rouge and reports directly to the Assistant District Administrator of Engineering.
The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. They will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary for the role.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a project manager for District design projects and consultant-designed projects.
- Manage consultant contracts by developing project scopes, negotiating man-hours and fees, establishing contract time requirements, design criteria, and monitoring progress for work quality and quantity.
- Review acceptability of plans, approve or reject final acceptance of plans, and approve invoices for payment.
- Serve as Project Manager for District pavement preservation projects, reimbursable projects, emergency projects, and Safety projects.
- Ensure all design milestone dates are met on time.
- Provide plan reviews as part of the design quality control process.
- Administer and provide technical guidance for engineering design projects.
- Assist with efforts related to the Road Transfer program, including attending preliminary discussion meetings and preparing resolutions for adoption, descriptive aerials of limits of the transfers, and other related documents.
Requirements
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
- Two years of licensed engineering experience; or
- Six years of professional engineering experience.
Qualifications
- A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
- A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience (maximum substitution of two years).
- There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
- Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
- Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license will be accepted as professional-level engineering experience.
- Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If selected, the applicant must obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
Supplemental Qualifications
- Two years of licensed engineering experience in a Project Engineer’s Office, or in design, construction, or maintenance of roads and/or bridges.
- Six years of professional engineering experience, four years of which must include experience in a Project Engineer’s Office, or in design, construction, or maintenance of roads and/or bridges.
Pay
There is a Special Entrance Rate of $41.45/hr for this position.
